Summer is coming quickly along with road trips and outdoor excursions! Warmer temperatures can be tough on Subies so here are a few things to keep in mind:

Cooling System–During the hotter months, the cooling system works more intensely to prevent overheating of the engine. To help your vehicle cool efficiently, you would want to get the coolant checked for proper level and mixture (approx. 50:50 water and coolant).

Starting System- It’s a good idea to get the alternator, starter and battery tested to ensure that the they are properly charging the vehicle. Excessive heat or a malfunctioning component in the charging system will eventually destroy a battery. Keeping the battery clean and free of corrosion will also help prolong its life.

Tire Pressure–Tire pressure is important in all contexts, whether for speed or safety. Properly inflated tires will insure that they last long and perform efficiently. It will also help them to maintain the best possible contact with the road surface, giving the vehicle steadiness and speed. On the other hand, improperly inflated tires (over or under-inflated) can lead to problems like blow-outs.

To get these items inspected (and more), call us today and request a Summer Safety Inspection!

So the weather is changing and our Subie may need a little TLC to help us get where we need to go!! To avoid costly repairs and ensure your safety, prepare for harsh conditions in advance by following a few simple guidelines:

Stay current with oil changes. Motor oil is the lifeblood of every vehicle and we recommend replacing every 4,000 miles.

Check the starting systems including the battery. If the battery is older than 4 years or has low cold cranking amps., it may not work well in cold weather.

Check filters, coolants and hoses– Make sure all filters (oil, gas and air) are in good condition. Check the coolant (anti-freeze) and thermostat to ensure proper engine warm-up, and make sure your heater and defroster work. Coolant should be changed every 2–4 years, unless the Subaru is newer and may have extended life coolant. Check for signs of deteriorating hoses and replace as needed. We often see bulges, leaks or cracks in the coolant hoses.

Tire Pressure– Check tires for excessive wear and proper inflation. Under-inflated tires increase wear and fuel consumption and over-inflated tires can reduce traction, especially in icy conditions. Check manufacturers recommendations for proper inflation of tire brand/model.

…and if you want us to take care of this for you, feel free to call 941‑8062 and schedule a “Safety Inspection” and we’ll make your vehicle is ready to ride the roads…and the snowbanks!

In this day and age, most of us have to watch our pennies and make sure that we are not wasting our hard-earned money. We at the Subie Guys understand this, and try very hard to keep our prices competitive or lower than average! Most of our customers know this, and trust that we are using the parts that offer the best quality for the money on their vehicle.

We have tried many, if not all brands of parts and have found the specific brands that work best for your Subie. This may be a genuine Subaru part and in some cases it may be another brand that we feel is equal or of better value to you.

At times, people may shop around, looking for the cheapest prices available. This does not always mean that you will be getting the same ‘job’ performed on your vehicle. We have had individuals who have gone elsewhere to have repairs performed on their vehicle but afterwards have had to come to us to have the job re-done.

Don’t take a chance… come to the experts!
